Destination Weddings

Want a wedding that's out of this world?  Hundreds of Brides and Grooms select an exotic
corner of the world to marry. Is a destination wedding for you?

A destination wedding has a different set of options from the traditional one, for example,
your guest list will be much smaller than if you celebrated in town. Planning an event in
another city or country can entail surprising challenges. Finding a great on- site wedding
coordinator to help you will save hours of work and is recommended. The on-site coordinator
with work with your wedding planner to make sure everything comes together. For your
guests, take extra care by creating a special gift, maybe a decorated basket or welcome box
upon their arrival. The gift can contain information about popular local restaurants, parks
and museums, historic sites, sporting events, movie or theatre tickets, and a city map. Don't
forget to prepare a personal welcome note with your telephone numbers and perhaps a bottle
of champagne. Unlike the traditional wedding, you will probably spend two to five days with
your guests. Once they depart, you and your sweetie can enjoy a romantic honeymoon alone!

Most popular wedding destinations are Hawaii, Las Vegas, Mexico, and the Caribbean Islands.
TIPS FOR THE BRIDE

Are you just getting engaged?

If so, here are a few tips you should do:

#1. Create a List of important topics to discuss-- this is a must! The topics are: (a) The number of total adult
guests, (b) how to finance the wedding; (c) the budget; (d) the type of wedding (religious, civil, theme, etc.), and (e)
the number of members in the wedding party (such as the number of bridesmaids, flower girls, or maid/matron of
honor).

#2. Meet the Parents to discuss the topics in #1 above (on if their paying, if appropriate). Good luck!

#3. Pick a Wedding Date and hire your Wedding Planner. Vendors are busy and wish that you have a date set.

#4 Get Educated. Research wedding web sites on the Internet for trends and articles. Purchase popular bridal
magazines. Visit bridal boutiques for ideas. Jot down all ideas you have in a notebook and take them along with
you to your first meeting with the planner to discuss your, budget, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception.

#5 Buy Planning Tools. The more organized, the easier the planning, and the less stressful. Thats what your
Wedding Planner is for, they will do all the worrying and handle the stress for you.

#6. Determine Planning Responsibilities. Discuss openly and honestly who will be responsible for the
entertainment, the menu, the cake? Since the bride's family (traditionally) hosts the rehearsal dinner, wedding,
and reception , the bride's family usually takes most of the responsibility. Couples paying for their own wedding
will usually split the tasks.

#7. Select a Venue. Prepare a list of sites, especially the one you have been dreaming of. Narrow the sites to
three of your favorites, then have your wedding planner check to see if your wedding date is available.

#8. Attend a Local Wedding Show. See what vendors offer, look at jewelry, gowns, hairstyles, cakes (and taste
them too), tuxedos, flowers, balloons, invitations, etc. Discuss with your planner any appointments you want
made with vendors you like, ask detailed questions about their services and gather information about pricing.

#9 Create the Guest List. First decide how to split the family invitations (such as 50%/50% per family). Add the
number of friends to invite and start adding/deleting from there. Now add the parents' list and re-evaluate.

#10. Stay Centered. Be careful not to let your wedding planning process negatively get in the way of your
normal responsibilities. Balance work, play and planning. The wedding is a very important event, but not as
important as your good health. Thats what your Wedding Planner is there for.  Utilize your planner.
